About us

We are the cultural heart of Prague's Jižní Město. Three distinct institutions united by a common mission: to bring art, culture, education, and community together in one place.

KC Zahrada

KC Zahrada: Cultural Center

It is one of two cultural centers operated by the non-profit organization KULTURNÍ JIŽNÍ MĚSTO o.p.s.

KC Zahrada offers cultural and leisure activities for all age groups, from toddlers to seniors. It features a multifunctional hall, a mirrored hall, ceramic and art workshops, a gym, and a number of smaller halls and classrooms.

Theater, film, music, and social gatherings are the core elements of this cultural center’s programming. A wide range of hobby activities is provided through numerous courses and workshops led by experienced instructors.

From early morning until evening, visitors can take advantage of these offerings, including seating in our café. In the summer months, the adjacent garden is also available, equipped with a children’s sandbox, garden furniture, and a fixed fire pit.

Weather permitting, the garden hosts outdoor concerts, theater performances, and other open-air events.

All spaces at KC Zahrada are also available for rent for private or corporate activities.

The entire building is wheelchair accessible. Contracts Concluded: In accordance with Act No. 340/2015 Coll., on special conditions for the effectiveness of certain contracts, the publication of these contracts and the register of contracts (Act on the Register of Contracts), contracts (including orders) concluded by KULTURNÍ JIŽNÍ MĚSTO o.p.s. with a performance value exceeding CZK 50,000 excluding VAT are published in the central register of contracts at: Central Register of Contracts

Chodov Fortress

Chodovská tvrz: Gallery and Spaces

The history of Chodovská tvrz dates back to the second half of the 13th century.

Originally a medieval water fortress, it served as a defensive residence surrounded by a moat. Over the centuries, it changed owners and its appearance—from the Order of the Knights of St. John to the Benedictines, who rebuilt it into a Baroque chateau in the 17th century.

The fortress acquired its current Neoclassical appearance with an arcaded courtyard at the beginning of the 19th century under the leadership of the Korb of Weidenheim family.

The building underwent a major transformation in the 20th century. After a period of decay, the fortress was sensitively renovated for cultural purposes between 1984 and 1988.

Historical elements were preserved and integrated with modern uses, creating a unique space in the heart of Jižní Město. Today, Chodovská tvrz is a popular cultural center operated by the organization KULTURNÍ JIŽNÍ MĚSTO, o.p.s.

We offer a rich program: concerts and exhibitions in historical halls and galleries; seasonal outdoor events (VLNY, Witches’ Night, Children’s Day, St. Nicholas Procession); and civil ceremonies and weddings in a unique historical atmosphere.

Chodovská tvrz is a place where rich history meets the modern social life of Prague 11.

It is a welcoming place for readers of all ages.

Our goal is to provide not only access to literature but also modern facilities for education and culture. Thanks to the support of the Ministry of Culture and the Prague 11 municipal district, we have equipped the library with new technology and modernized the children’s department to offer you even better services and cultural programs.

How to become a reader? Registration is simple and takes place in person directly at the library.

After filling in basic details and paying a symbolic fee, you will receive a library card that opens the door to our collection.

The annual fee for adults is 50 CZK & FREE for children under 15, seniors 65+, and ZTP card holders.

Lending services and online catalog. You can borrow up to 10 books at a time from our collection for a period of 30 days. If a title is not reserved by another reader, you can extend the loan (maximum 2 times), either in person, by phone, by email, or conveniently through your account in our online catalog.

The online catalog also allows you to instantly check book availability or reserve a book from the comfort of your home.
