The local library, in cooperation with the Retirement Home, which offered a pleasant space for the event, is organizing a talk with the writer Věra Nosková, who has a rich and diverse publishing history. She is also known to the public as a promoter of science and critical thinking.

In her later years, she began traveling to exotic countries with her adult sons and expanded her publications to include interesting travelogues. She will share her experiences from one of these trips, which she took with her son Jiří through Thailand and Vietnam, during a talk and screening on Wednesday, November 20, from 2:00 PM in the theater hall of the Chodov Retirement Home, Donovalská 2222/31.

New librarians

Regular readers have surely noticed that since the library reopened in September 2019, two new librarians have been taking care of them, so it’s high time to introduce them. Both Šárka Bezděčková and Katarína Králová have embraced their new roles with great joy. They look forward not only to discovering new books but especially to meeting their readers.

When Šárka and Katarína aren’t in the library or busy reading and pursuing other cultural interests, they both love to travel (Šárka is drawn to exotic destinations, while Katarína enjoys the diversity of Europe) and they enjoy sports all year round. And it is during these activities, in a way you don’t know them from the library, that they present themselves to you in these photos

New arrivals in the library

In October, the library is offering its first new book additions, reflecting the interests observed among regular visitors and aiming to introduce several titles from every genre. You’ll find detective stories by Czech female authors as well as international ones (including the latest Nesbo and Minier). For a more entertaining read, we have books by E. Boček and his Aristocrat stories, which you can now also see in cinemas. Other highlights include P. Hartl’s Best Weekend and a near-detective novel by Radka Třeštíková. Since V. Vondruška and A. Mornštajnová have recently become some of the most popular authors in all libraries, their latest works are also included in our selection. An unusually wide range of literary works by J. Škvorecký is also available thanks to a donation received by the library.

The October selection will satisfy adult readers; next time, the library will focus on something new for children and young adults.

Extended Saturday opening hours from April

From Saturday, April 4, 2026, the library is extending its Saturday opening hours until 3:00 PM (previously 1:00 PM). This change was introduced based on member requests and community feedback. Sunday opening hours remain unchanged. The extended hours will last throughout the summer, with a planned review in September 2026.
