To mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Vladimír Mencl, a resident of Prague’s southern districts, Chodovská Fortress is exhibiting the works of this versatile artist, musician, painter, and piano virtuoso. He was an associate professor at the Prague Academy of Performing Arts, a member of the Association of Musical Artists and Scientists, and of several fine art associations.

VLADIMÍR MENCL – PAINTINGS OF THE CZECH COUNTRYSIDE

A musician and painter – a combination of two artistic professions that is not common, but quite well-known in history – was born in České Budějovice, and his paintings are inspired mainly by the South Bohemian landscape. They have a warm, sensitive character in color and its multifaceted nuances – as if the sound of the piano, at which Vladimír Mencl used to sit, penetrates through them. He created a pleasant image of the world that resembles reality, but above all corresponds to the author’s own refined aesthetic.

He exhibited his works at more than 200 exhibitions both domestically and abroad.
